Daily Drawing 61: Art is an Experiment

Today’s daily drawing is just showing some quick sketches to test out different styles and expressions. I am beginning to play around with the proportions of my bears as I get deeper into the “Wild Caught” series. The more I make art whether its a simple sketch or an elaborate painting, I try to think of everything as an experiment. I’ve mentioned before, that I am a recovering info junkie, and part of that addiction is researching techniques and how-to’s related to drawing and painting. Most of the information is great and I learn a lot. Here is the thing, I have a tendency to research more rather than going out and trying things myself. Now, I’m working hard to break the info addiction by taking steps to do small experiments like this sketch. I want to push the boundaries of my current style and see if there is something I like more. Through these little experiments, I can quickly discover what works and what doesn’t. Even when I go to do a final illustration, that too is an experiment. It may or may not land right on the audience I make it for. As I get feedback on what is working and what isn’t, then my process and style can be refined over time. I’m in it for the long game. Speaking of feedback, which of these bears do you like more?

K. Thanks. Bye.
